Can you save a life?

Hello! I woke up this morning with the song "How To Save A Life" by The Fray stuck in my head. To be honest I have no idea why this particular song was stuck in my head but here I am with an inspiration to write! :)

We as Christians are called to "save lives" by simply proclaiming the word to those we come in contact with daily. We have this GREAT gift of being in a relationship with our maker and the God of creation. Shouldn't everyone have that luxury? Shouldn't everyone have an equal opportunity to know about the gospel and learn about our God and savior?

In Mark it says, "And he said to them, 'Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation'"(Mk 16:15). I think that we are called just as doctors are called to save people. Doctors are called to save people from sickness and injuries of this world, and we as Christians are to save people from the perils that they will face if they fail to know our God. It truly is important that we are witnesses to everyone that we come into contact with, wether it's actually talking about the gospel to them or if it's simply being kind and friendly showing that we may have something they don't, a personal relationship with Christ.

You're probably wondering how all this fits into my "theme" of "How To Save A Life," but it's simple. We are to save lives with our words and actions. In the song the opening line says, "Step one you say 'We need to talk' he walks, you say 'Sit down it's just a talk.'" Although we can witness to those around us with simple actions and simple words and knowledge of the Bible, there will be times that we will have to make this person sit down with us and tell them what we know. Especially if this person is close to you and you know they are lost. It's a challenge, it really is, trust me I know.

This song is really quite important to me in a way, it sort of symbolizes a time with I "lost" a friend because they refused to hear me out and what I needed them to hear. I tried. I did all that I could to tell this person about what I knew and what all I had learned through my faith and how great it was. How I had such peace in hard times, how when I was down all I had to do was pick up my Bible and things were instantly better. They refused it all. They had a comeback to all I had to say. They defended their belief. I respect that. Still it hurts, it hurts to know that I lost a really good friend to the fact that they honestly did not want to be around if I was going to continue to profess my faith to them.

I still pray about this friend. That one day he will understand all that God can give, peace, understanding, hope. John 12:48 says, "The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day." This verse is my main reason for being so adamant in showing my faith those of my friends who are truly lost. They will receive judgement and it scares me to think that some of my best friends or former best friends will end up in a place far from me one day.

Can we save a life by simply speaking and acting on the word of God? YES. I don't know if I personally have saved anyone and showed them that there is something different about me because I know Christ, I hope I have. That's my goal. To save people. To show them that there is a better way and someone who will ALWAYS be there for them in their darkest moments.

What if by doing something as simple as smiling at someone and giving them a compliment, or sitting with the lonely person at lunch could trigger something in them to ask us what is different about us and how they can get it? Crazy to think that the simplest things have such an amazing impact huh?

"For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God." (2 Cor. 9:12)

“'Thus says the Lord: Stand in the court of the Lord's house, and speak to all the cities of Judah that come to worship in the house of the Lord all the words that I command you to speak to them; do not hold back a word.'" (Jer. 26:2)
